TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
 
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
 
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
 
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
 
AT 2 A.M., THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE SEAS WEST OF
LUZON WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 710 KILOMETRES SOUTHEAST OF
HONG KONG (NEAR 17.1 DEGREES NORTH 118.2 DEGREES EAST) AND
IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT 28 KILOMETRES PER HOUR
ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PARTS OF THE SOUTH CHINA
SEA.


 
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION
WILL INTENSIFY GRADUALLY TODAY AND TOMORROW (23 AND 24
AUGUST). IT IS EXPECTED TO SKIRT AROUND 500 KILOMETRES OR
MORE SOUTH OF HONG KONG TONIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING. THE
STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE AT LEAST UNTIL
NOON TODAY.
 
LOCALLY, IT IS EXPECTED TO BE MAINLY FINE TODAY AND VERY
HOT DURING THE DAY. THERE WILL BE A FEW SHOWERS AND SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS AT NIGHT. THERE WILL BE SWELLS. IT WILL BE
WINDIER WITH OCCASIONAL SQUALLY SHOWERS TOMORROW. MEMBERS
OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE
AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.

1. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF
OBSTRUCTIONS, AND WINDOWS AND DOORS SHOULD BE CHECKED.
 
2. PEOPLE IN AREAS OF EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS OR IN LOW-LYING
AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST STRONG WINDS AND
FLOODING.
 
3. THOSE WHO HAVE DUTIES DURING A TROPICAL CYCLONE SHOULD
NOW REMAIN ON CALL.

INFORMATION ON THE TROPICAL CYCLONE.
