TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 41 TO 62
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED.
AT 5 P.M., TROPICAL STORM LIONROCK WAS ESTIMATED TO BE
ABOUT 540 KILOMETRES SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 18.5
DEGREES NORTH 110.9 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
NORTH AT ABOUT 10 KILOMETRES PER HOUR TOWARDS THE VICINITY
OF HAINAN ISLAND.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK, LIONROCK WILL BE
CLOSEST TO HONG KONG TOMORROW (9 OCTOBER) MORNING, SKIRTING
ABOUT 500 KILOMETRES TO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE TERRITORY.
UNDER THE COMBINED EFFECT OF LIONROCK AND THE NORTHEAST
MONSOON, WINDS CONTINUE TO BE GENERALLY STRONG OVER THE
COAST OF SOUTHERN CHINA WITH OCCASIONAL GALES OFFSHORE AND
ON HIGH GROUND. THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 IS EXPECTED
TO REMAIN IN FORCE TONIGHT AND TOMORROW (9 OCTOBER)
MORNING.
THE OUTER RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH LIONROCK WILL CONTINUE
TO BRING WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN TO THE COAST OF GUANGDONG.
MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD REMAIN ON THE ALERT.
STORM SURGE INDUCED BY LIONROCK AND HEAVY RAIN MAY LEAD TO
FLOODING IN LOW-LYING AREAS. THERE WILL BE ASTRONOMICAL
HIGH TIDE TONIGHT. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD TAKE
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST STRONG WINDS AND FLOODING. BESIDES,
LIONROCK WILL BRING SQUALLS. SEAS WILL BE ROUGH WITH
SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE
SHORELINE, AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.

TO AFFECT THE COAST OF GUANGDONG TOMORROW (9 OCTOBER).
IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
TATE'S CAIRN, WAGLAN ISLAND AND CHEUNG CHAU WERE 61, 61 AND
55 KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS 87, 66 AND 67
KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.

SECURELY LOCKED.
2. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF LEAVES AND RUBBISH. PEOPLE
IN LOW-LYING AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST FLOODING.
3. AVOID STAYING IN AREAS EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS. DRIVERS
USING HIGHWAYS AND FLYOVERS SHOULD BE ALERT TO VIOLENT
GUSTS.
4. CONSTRUCTION AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PRACTITIONERS
SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT OVERHANGING FACILITIES AND TEMPORARY
STRUCTURES OUTDOORS ARE SECURELY FASTENED OR PLACED ON THE
GROUND, AND COMPLETE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE.
5. SMALL VESSEL OWNERS SHOULD NOW COMPLETE ALL SAFETY
ARRANGEMENTS AND RETURN TO NEARBY TYPHOON SHELTERS.
