TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
 
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
 
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
 
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
 
AT 3 P.M., THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE CENTRAL PART OF
THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 740
KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 15.9 DEGREES
NORTH 112.1 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO BE SLOW-MOVING
AT FIRST, AND THEN MOVE NORTH-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 10
KILOMETRES PER HOUR TOWARDS THE VICINITY OF HAINAN ISLAND.
MEANWHILE, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION NEAR THE TAIWAN STRAIT
HAS WEAKENED INTO A LOW PRESSURE AREA.


 
THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE CENTRAL PART OF THE SOUTH
CHINA SEA MOVED RELATIVELY SLOWLY IN THE LAST FEW HOURS. IT
WILL MAINTAIN A DISTANCE OF OVER 500 KILOMETRES FROM THE
TERRITORY TODAY. THE SHOWERS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TROPICAL
DEPRESSION ARE AFFECTING THE COAST OF GUANGDONG. THE
STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE FOR THE REST OF
TODAY.
