TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
 
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
 
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
 
AT 10 A.M., THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE NORTHWESTERN
PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 610
KILOMETRES SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 18.4 DEGREES NORTH
110.1 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST OR
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS
HAINAN ISLAND AND BEIBU WAN.


 
THIS TROPICAL DEPRESSION IS ABOUT TO MAKE LANDFALL OVER
HAINAN ISLAND AND IS GRADUALLY DEPARTING FROM HONG KONG.
LOCALLY, OCCASIONAL STRONG WINDS ARE STILL EXPECTED OVER
OFFSHORE WATERS AND ON HIGH GROUND AT FIRST. SQUALLS AND
HEAVY SHOWERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION WILL
CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE TERRITORY. THERE WILL BE SWELLS. THE
STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE FOR A PERIOD OF
TIME DURING THE DAY. WHEN THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION NO LONGER
POSES A THREAT TO HONG KONG, THE OBSERVATORY WILL CANCEL
ALL TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNALS.


 
(PRECAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH NO. 1 SIGNAL)
 
1. PEOPLE IN AREAS OF EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS OR IN LOW-LYING
AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST STRONG WINDS AND
FLOODING NOW.
 
2. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN NOW. DRAINS SHOULD BE
CLEARED OF OBSTRUCTIONS, AND WINDOWS AND DOORS SHOULD BE
CHECKED.
 
3. THERE WILL BE SWELLS. YOU ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM
THE SHORELINE AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.
 
4. FISHING VESSELS AND LOW POWER VESSELS IN OPEN SEA SHOULD
SEEK SHELTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND BE SECURED PROPERLY
WITH MOORINGS.
 
5. CONSTRUCTION AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PRACTITIONERS
SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT OVERHANGING FACILITIES AND TEMPORARY
STRUCTURES OUTDOORS ARE SECURELY FASTENED, AND SHOULD TAKE
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES.
