LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST

HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.
 
GENERAL SITUATION

TROPICAL CYCLONE HATO INTENSIFIED INTO A SEVERE TYPHOON
YESTERDAY MORNING AND SKIRTED TO THE SOUTH OF HONG KONG,
BRINGING HURRICANE FORCE WINDS WITH HEAVY SQUALLY SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE TERRITORY. AS HATO MADE LANDFALL
OVER ZHUHAI IN THE AFTERNOON AND MOVED INLAND, IT WEAKENED
GRADUALLY INTO A TROPICAL STORM. LOCAL WINDS SUBSIDED
SIGNIFICANTLY. LOCALLY, MORE THAN 50 MILLIMETRES OF
RAINFALL WERE RECORDED OVER THE TERRITORY YESTERDAY.
RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH HATO WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT
GUANGDONG AND THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA
TODAY.
 
SEVERE TROPICAL STORM HATO HAS WEAKENED INTO A TROPICAL
STORM. AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, HATO WAS CENTRED ABOUT 190
KILOMETRES EAST OF NANNING AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 25 KILOMETRES PER HOUR FURTHER
INLAND AND WEAKEN GRADUALLY.
 
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG
 
CLOUDY WITH SQUALLY SHOWERS. SHOWERS WILL EASE OFF
GRADUALLY. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 26 AND 31
DEGREES. MODERATE TO FRESH SOUTH TO SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS,
OCCASIONALLY STRONG OFFSHORE AT FIRST. THERE WILL BE SWELLS
AT FIRST.
 
OUTLOOK : STILL SHOWERY IN THE FOLLOWING FEW DAYS.
