LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST

HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.
 
GENERAL SITUATION

THE NORTHEAST MONSOON AND THE OUTER SOUTHERLY AIRSTREAM OF
TROPICAL CYCLONE SARIKA CONVERGED NEAR THE PEARL RIVER
ESTUARY YESTERDAY, AND BROUGHT HEAVY SHOWERS TO THE REGION.
LOCALLY, IT WAS CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
SHOWERS WERE HEAVY IN THE AFTERNOON. MORE THAN 100
MILLIMETRES OF RAINFALL WERE RECORDED OVER MANY PLACES, AND
RAINFALL EVEN EXCEEDED 200 MILLIMETRES OVER THE URBAN
AREAS, SHA TIN AND TAI PO. TROPICAL CYCLONE HAIMA WILL MOVE
ACROSS THE NORTHERN PART OF LUZON AND ENTER THE SOUTH CHINA
SEA THIS MORNING. UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ITS OUTER
SUBSIDING AIR, THE WEATHER WILL IMPROVE SHORTLY OVER THE
COAST OF GUANGDONG TODAY.
 
AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, SUPER TYPHOON HAIMA WAS CENTRED
ABOUT 370 KILOMETRES NORTH-NORTHEAST OF MANILA. IT IS
FORECAST TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 28 KILOMETRES PER
HOUR ACROSS THE NORTHERN PART OF LUZON.
 
BESIDES, SARIKA GRADUALLY WEAKENED FROM A SEVERE TROPICAL
STORM INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION YESTERDAY. AT 11 P.M. LAST
NIGHT, SARIKA WAS CENTRED ABOUT 110 KILOMETRES SOUTHWEST OF
NANNING. IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE NORTH-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 10
KILOMETRES PER HOUR INTO INLAND GUANGXI.
 
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG
 
CLOUDY WITH ONE OR TWO SHOWERS. SUNNY PERIODS DURING THE
DAY. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 25 AND 31 DEGREES.
MODERATE TO FRESH EAST TO NORTHEASTERLY WINDS, OCCASIONALLY
STRONG OFFSHORE LATER. THERE WILL BE SWELLS LATER.
 
OUTLOOK : FREQUENT HEAVY RAIN WITH SQUALLS ON FRIDAY. SEAS
WILL BE ROUGH WITH SWELLS. RAIN WILL EASE OFF LATER ON
SATURDAY.
