LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST

HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.
 
GENERAL SITUATION

SARIKA MOVED ACROSS HAINAN ISLAND AND WEAKENED FROM A
SEVERE TYPHOON INTO A SEVERE TROPICAL STROM GRADUALLY
YESTERDAY. ITS OUTER RAINBANDS CONTINUED TO AFFECT THE
SOUTH CHINA COAST YESTERDAY. LOCALLY, IT WAS CLOUDY TO
OVERCAST WITH HEAVY RAIN AND SQUALLS. MORE THAN 70
MILLIMETRES OF RAINFALL WERE GENERALLY RECORDED OVER THE
TERRITORY, AND RAINFALL OVER PARTS OF THE TERRITORY EVEN
EXCEEDED 150 MILLIMETRES. AS SARIKA MOVING ACROSS BEIBU WAN
AND DISSIPATING INLAND, RAIN WILL EASE OFF GRADUALLY OVER
THE COAST OF GUANGDONG AND WINDS WILL ALSO WEAKEN TODAY AND
TOMORROW.
 
AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, SUPER TYPHOON HAIMA WAS CENTRED
ABOUT 830 KILOMETRES EAST OF MANILA. IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 25 KILOMETRES PER HOUR TOWARDS THE
NORTHERN PART OF LUZON.
 
MEANWHILE, SEVERE TROPICAL STORM SARIKA WAS CENTRED ABOUT
350 KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF NANNING. IT IS FORECAST
TO MOVE NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 12 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS
BEIBU WAN.
 
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG
 
CLOUDY WITH SQUALLY SHOWERS. SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AT FIRST
AND WILL EASE OFF GRADUALLY LATER. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE
BETWEEN 24 AND 27 DEGREES. FRESH EAST TO SOUTHEASTERLY
WINDS, STRONG OFFSHORE AT FIRST. SEAS WILL BE ROUGH WITH
SWELLS.
 
OUTLOOK : SUNNY PERIODS ON THURSDAY. HEAVY SQUALLY SHOWERS
AND SWELLS ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.
