Jackie Chan hails success of film industry in Asia's world city

The success of Hong Kong's film industry is in no small part due to the favourable business environment that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has created for all to compete on a level playing field, renowned actor Jackie Chan said today (November 22 Toronto time) in Toronto.

"The Hong Kong Government maintains a free environment where we can pursue our projects without interference. No wonder Hong Kong is 'Asia's world city'," he told Canadian media during a visit to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto.

Welcoming Jackie Chan, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), Mrs Rosanna Ure, paid tribute to the work of Hong Kong's film industry professionals.

Hong Kong films are well-known products overseas and the industry is a very important sector in the Hong Kong economy.

"Jackie Chan embodies the Hong Kong spirit - our can-do attitude, our flexible and pragmatic way of doing business, and our creative and ingenious approach to overcome difficulties. These make Hong Kong products and services highly competitive in the global market," Mrs Ure said.

Jackie Chan is currently in Toronto for location filming of his latest production 'Tuxedo'.

But today he specially took time out to call in at the HKETO and congratulate staff on the office's 10th anniversary.

He pledged his full support for the Hong Kong Arts Festival, organised by the HKETO and currently being held in Toronto, and commended it for successfully promoting Hong Kong's arts and culture to the Canadian community.
