Hong Kong and Mexico today (August 18) signed an agreement on the abolition of visa requirements. The agreement was signed by the Director of Immigration, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, and the Mexican Consul-General, Mr Mario Leal. From September 18, holders of the Hong Kong SAR passport will have visa-free access to Mexico for visits of up to 90 days. At the same time, Mexican nationals will enjoy 90 days' visa-free access to Hong Kong. Mr Lai said the Hong Kong government welcomed the signing of the agreement as it meant greater convenience for travellers as well as helping to promote trade, business and tourism links between Hong Kong and Mexico. One-hundred-and-thirty-two countries have now granted visa-free access to HKSAR passport holders. Ends/Wednesday, August 18, 2004 |
