Hong Kong jewellers set to write new business at international trade fair

Hong Kong exhibitors taking part in an international jewellery show in New York are expected to write more than $HK1.5 billion in business transactions during the next few days.

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, Ms Sarah Wu, today (July 27) extended a warm welcome to more than 150 exhibitors from Hong Kong to the JA International Jewellery Show at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre.

"With the outstanding tradition of creativity and entrepreneurship, we believe Hong Kong jewellers will be able to capitalise on new business opportunities arising from this important trade show," Ms Wu said.

"The participation of Hong Kong exhibitors at this event sends a loud and clear message that Hong Kong is on its feet again to do business with its trading partners after the SARS outbreak earlier in the year."

According to the Chairman of the Hong Kong Jewellery and Jade Manufacturers Association, Mr Li King-hi, his members expect to receive orders worth more than HK$1.5 billion during the course of the international trade fair.

The show, which runs from today until Wednesday (July 30), attracts more than 1,900 exhibitors and 13,000 buyers from all over the world.
