***************************************************************************
With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta (HKETO Jakarta), the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) and the Film Development Fund, the "Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation - Jakarta" opened today (October 22) at Jakarta Film Week, featuring screenings of five acclaimed Hong Kong films and a thematic film exhibition entitled "A Tale of Two Cities: Hong Kong x Jakarta".

Organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA), "Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation - Jakarta" features three films starring legendary martial arts icon Sammo Hung, namely "Eastern Condors", "Encounter of the Spooky Kind" and "The Bodyguard", alongside two recent Hong Kong productions, "The Dating Menu" and "Dead End". The programme offers Indonesian audiences an opportunity to revisit the timeless appeal of Hong Kong action cinema classics on the silver screen while experiencing fresh perspectives of the new generation of filmmakers. Hung; lead actress of "Eastern Condors" Joyce Godenzi; and lead actress of "The Dating Menu" Rachel Leung, have travelled to Jakarta to attend the gala.

HKETO Jakarta co-organised a Hong Kong Night reception last night (October 21) to promote Hong Kong cinema and encourage exchanges among film, television and cultural industry professionals attending Jakarta Film Week.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the HKETO Jakarta, Miss Libera Cheng, said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government is dedicated to boosting film productions and nurturing talent across different sectors of the film industry through various funding schemes. The Chief Executive's 2026 Policy Address stated that CCIDA will continue to support Hong Kong films, as well as facilitate overseas crews filming in Hong Kong. These initiatives align with the vision set out in the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the HKSAR (2026-2030), with the aim of fostering the thriving and sustainable development of the Hong Kong film industry.

Some 100 guests attended the reception, including Leung; the Executive Director of the AFAA, Ms Josie Lin; Festival Director of Jakarta Film Week, Ms Rina Damayanti; and representatives from the cultural and creative industries across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries.

In addition to the film screenings, Hung hosted a masterclass today. He shared his martial arts training experiences and reflected on his journey in bringing Hong Kong action cinema to international prominence with Indonesian film practitioners and audiences.

The thematic exhibition "A Tale of Two Cities: Hong Kong x Jakarta" is being held at FX Sudirman in Jakarta from today until October 31. Through films and related exhibits, it explores the intersections between the two cities' film and cultural scenes. Admission is free.
