Hongkong Post to issue "24 Solar Terms - Winter" special stamps (with photos)
***************************************************************************************
The 24 Solar Terms collectively refer to a knowledge system of time and social practices progressively developed by Chinese people through observation of the sun's periodic motion, changes of seasons and phenological cycles. This system was inscribed onto the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2016. Subsequent to the "24 Solar Terms - Spring", "24 Solar Terms - Summer" and "24 Solar Terms - Autumn" special stamps issued in 2020, 2023 and 2025 respectively, Hongkong Post will issue a set of six stamps on the theme of "24 Solar Terms - Winter" as a continuation of the series. Rendered in soft colours, the stamps feature the scenes of six solar terms of winter, namely "Winter Commences", "Light Snow", "Heavy Snow", "Winter Solstice", "Moderate Cold" and "Severe Cold", bringing the entire collection to a perfect conclusion.
In addition, Hongkong Post will specifically launch a souvenir pack, featuring a round-shaped souvenir sheet that contains the full set of 24 special stamps on the theme of "24 Solar Terms". Symbolising a sense of wholeness in the seasonal cyclicality, this pack is truly valuable for both collection and appreciation.
Official first day covers for "24 Solar Terms - Winter" will be on sale at all post offices and on Hongkong Post's online shopping platform ShopThruPost (shopthrupost.hongkongpost.hk) from tomorrow (October 22). This set of special stamps and associated philatelic products will be on sale at all post offices and on ShopThruPost from November 5, while serviced first day covers affixed with the special stamps and souvenir packs will be available at philatelic offices only.
A hand-back date-stamping service will be provided on November 5 at all post offices for official first day covers/souvenir covers/privately made covers bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address.
Information about this set of special stamps and associated philatelic products is available on the Hongkong Post Stamps website (stamps.hongkongpost.hk).
