The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present a piano recital by John Lee in October as part of its "Hong Kong Artists" Series, featuring the musician's delicate touch and extraordinary artistic vision that blends timeless classics with a multifaceted musical vocabulary and weaves together a profound musical dialogue transcending instruments, paintings and languages.

     In the first half of the recital, the young pianist will perform a selection of violin works transcribed by Rachmaninov, including Bach's "Suite from Violin Partita No. 3 in E", and more. He will also perform Rachmaninov's "Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op. 42", a solo piano masterpiece inspired by a legendary violin work, exploring the sonic boundaries between the piano and the violin.

     In the second half, Lee's keyboard will call to mind artworks and languages. Apart from works by Granados, inspired by artworks, such as "Los Requiebros", the first work of Book 1. Lee will also explore the lyrical inflections and spoken cadences across German, English, Russian, Italian and French with five highly cantabile works, encompassing Liszt's "Müllerlieder von Franz Schubert, No. 2, 'Der Müller und der Bach'", Tchaikovsky's (arr. Volodos) "16 Kinderlieder, Op. 54, No. 10, 'Berceuse'", and more. 

     Lee graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts before pursuing further studies at the Royal College of Music in London. He has clinched first prize at the CLAMO Music International Piano Competition in Murcia, Spain, the Watford International Piano Competition, and the "Liszt Memorial Prize" Hong Kong-International Piano Open Competition.
