Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Union Construction (Group) Limited and On Kit Scaffold Engineering Limited were fined $157,000 and $171,000 respectively at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (September 21) for violating the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on October 13, 2024, at a school in Ho Man Tin. A scaffolder, while dismantling a bamboo scaffold at the external walls of the school, was suspected to have fallen from height to the ground. He passed away on the same day.
