The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) encouraged the financial sector to harness technology and data in channelling capital more effectively toward the low-carbon transition at the 2026 Green Fintech Symposium, the grand finale of Hong Kong Green Week today (September 11).
"Achieving a net‑zero and climate‑resilient economy is not just about mobilising more capital; it is about deploying capital more intelligently," said the Chief Executive of the HKMA, Mr Eddie Yue, in his opening remarks at the Symposium. "We need finance that is sharply targeted to ensure capital flows to high-impact decarbonisation projects, guard against the risks of greenwashing, and respond agilely to the complexities of real economy transition."
His remarks set the tone for the Symposium hosted by the HKMA, which drew over 450 in-person and online participants, echoing the theme "Smarter Finance for a Greener Transition." Through a fireside chat and panel discussions at the Symposium, policymakers, global investors and financiers, and technology leaders exchanged insights on the evolving green fintech landscape. Topics included smart transition infrastructure, AI-driven sustainable finance, as well as success stories and real-world implementation.
A highlight of the Symposium was the solution showcase, which spotlighted outstanding home-grown green fintech solutions through on-stage presentations and exhibition booths. These innovative solutions have the potential to help banks and corporates in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and beyond address issues in environmental, social and governance (ESG) data, carbon markets, climate risk management, ESG disclosure, and sustainable finance.
The Symposium, which brought the Hong Kong Green Week 2026 to a close, is supported by the FinTech Association of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Invest Hong Kong, and the One Earth Alliance.
