Hospital Authority expresses deep condolences over passing of former Vice-Chairman of CPPCC National Committee and first Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr Tung Chee Hwa

     ​The Hospital Authority (HA) Chairman, Mr Henry Fan, together with all HA colleagues, today (September 9) expressed deep condolences over the passing of the former Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the first and second-term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr Tung Chee Hwa.

     Mr Fan said that during his tenure as the Chief Executive, Mr Tung was consistently committed to the development of Hong Kong's healthcare and public health sectors. He actively supported the work of the HA, striving to ensure quality public healthcare services for the people of Hong Kong. Furthermore, Mr Tung vigorously championed the development of Chinese medicine during his term, playing a vital role in gradually integrating Chinese medicine into the local healthcare system and advancing the Integrated Chinese-Western medicine collaboration model in public hospitals.

     The HA Chief Executive, Dr Libby Lee, noted that Mr Tung and the HKSAR Government guided Hong Kong through significant epidemic challenges, providing steadfast support to the HA while remaining deeply attuned to the well-being of patients and healthcare workers, successfully steering the city through difficult times.

     Mr Tung served our country and Hong Kong with dedication and commitment, making immense contributions to the development of Hong Kong and earning profound respect across the community. The HA is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Tung and extends its sincerest condolences to his family.
