Labour Department brings prosecutions regarding contraventions of occupational safety and health legislation in Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po

A spokesman for the Labour Department (LD) said today (September 9) that, regarding the fire incident that occurred on November 26 last year on the construction site for building repair works of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which caused the death of five personnel of construction contractors, the LD, in consultation with the Department of Justice, has initiated at this stage a total of 25 prosecutions against the relevant duty holders (including a contractor, a project consultant and an individual), by way of indictment under the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance (Cap. 59), for contraventions of the general duty provisions under the Ordinance.
The spokesman emphasised that the LD does not tolerate contraventions of occupational safety and health (OSH) legislation, and will strictly enforce the law to protect the OSH of employees.
