The Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM) is staging "Miss You Much · Leslie 70th Birthday · Exhibition" from tomorrow (September 9) to May 10 next year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of legendary star Leslie Cheung's birth, recapitulating his outstanding achievements in music and film, and reminiscing about his crowning moments. 
 
     Addressing the opening ceremony today (September 8), the Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Raistlin Lau, said that Cheung, well known as Gor-gor, is an enduring icon of Hong Kong's pop culture. His artistic spirit of innovation and self-transcendence has been actively driving the vitality of Hong Kong's pop culture, and is also the key factor that enables it to exert influence on the global stage.
 
     Other officiating guests included guest curator Mrs Florence Chan; the Chairperson of the Museum Advisory Committee, Professor Douglas So; world-renowned designer Alan Chan; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Manda Chan; and the Museum Director of the HKHM, Mr Brian Lam.
 
     The exhibition presents over 300 precious exhibits. Eleven classic stage costumes will take visitors back to the deafening applause of Cheung's concerts. Exhibits on maiden public display include Cheung's personal furniture, the gold jacket, sequin top and purple striped trousers worn by him in his "Live in Concert 97", and his portrait created by local artist Yuen Tai-yung. The interior settings of parts of Gor-gor's former residence will be re-created for the first time, featuring his desk and chairs and inviting visitors to step into the superstar's private space.
 
     During the exhibition period, the HKHM will screen six of Cheung's cinematic masterpieces, namely "Behind the Yellow Line", "For Your Heart Only", "A Better Tomorrow", "A Chinese Ghost Story", "Rouge" and "He's a Woman, She's a Man", for free. At the end of this year, there will be a special free retrospective screening of Cheung's "Live in Concert 97". Film tickets will be distributed on the day of each screening at noon on the 1/F of the HKHM on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last. The admission arrangements for the concert video will be announced later.
 
     The date of September 12, 2026, marks Cheung's 70th birthday. As a relatively high visitor volume is expected on that day, the HKHM will distribute admission tickets on a first-come, first-served basis for entry to the exhibition in designated time slots. Detailed arrangements will be set out on the on-site notice, the HKHM's official website and Instagram. Visitors are requested to follow the instructions of the venue staff.
 
     In addition, in view of the large number of Cheung's fans, flexible visitor flow management measures may be implemented as needed during the whole exhibition period to offer a good visit experience, including issuing admission tickets for entry to the exhibition in designated time slots.
 
     The exhibition is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, organised by the HKHM with curatorial planning by Mrs Chan, and supported by Les FANmily. Admission is free. The HKHM has specifically designed a limited-edition, poster-style exhibition pamphlet. Each visitor is welcome to take one copy. The pamphlets will be distributed each day while stocks last.
