Hong Kong saxophonist Charles Ng will take the stage in October as part of the "Hong Kong Artists" Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Joining hands with local pianist Annie Yuen, he will deliver a recital combining emotional narrative, improvisation and avant-garde exploration, showcasing the versatility and boundless potential of the saxophone.
Ng has meticulously curated the repertoire for this recital. The first half of the recital emphasises the narrative dimension, featuring Chen Gang's "Sunshine Over Tashkurgan", Paule Maurice's "Tableaux de Provence", Gerald Preinfalk's "Little Bitter Sweet Symphony" (Asia premiere) and Piet Swerts' "Klonos".
In the second half, apart from performing Steve Reich's "New York Counterpoint", Ng will interpret Miguel Farías's "Cuaderno de la Pampa" (Asia premiere), featuring a unique combination of instruments, and "Celestial Architecture" (world premiere), a joint creation with local composer Charles Kwong, promising to offer music lovers a captivating visual and auditory experience.
Ng is a member of the world-famous Vienna-based saxophone quintet Five Sax, with whom he has performed in over 200 concerts worldwide. He is also the co-director of the saxophone ensemble Dawn of Asia Saxophone Project.
