The opening ceremony of Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu was held today (September 4) at the Sichuan Culture and Arts Center, with "Kung Fu Artistry" as the opening performance presented by the Hong Kong Dance Company to retell the legendary story of superstar Bruce Lee through blending martial arts, dance, multimedia and jazz.

     The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, addressed the opening ceremony in a video message. He said that the long-standing exchanges between Sichuan and Hong Kong have laid a solid foundation for the holding of Hong Kong Week in Chengdu. Hong Kong will continue to play the roles of "super connector" and "super value-adder" to foster the efficient connection between arts and cultural resources and markets in the Chinese Mainland and overseas places, assisting in the wider and further promotion of Chinese culture.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Miss Rosanna Law, remarked that since its inception in 2019, Hong Kong Week has grown into an important platform for deepening cultural exchanges and telling the good stories of our country and Hong Kong. The diverse programmes of Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu showcase the rich and multifaceted creativity of Hong Kong, while also bearing witness to the great friendships forged between artists from Sichuan and Hong Kong through their collaborations.

     Other officiating guests included Vice-Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Mr Ouyang Zehua; the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Sichuan Province, Ms Zhang Tao; the Director General of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Sichuan Province, Mr Chen Guanghao; the Director General of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, Ms Yang Min; the Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ms Vivian Sum; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Manda Chan; and the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu (Chengdu ETO), Miss Amy Yeung.

     Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and supported by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Sichuan Provincial Committee, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Chengdu Municipal Committee, the Chengdu Municipal People's Government Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast-TV, and Tourism, and the Chengdu ETO. Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu, running from today to September 20, will feature over 60 performances, exhibitions and activities covering dance, music, theatre, films, intangible cultural heritage, toy culture and design, illustrating Hong Kong's cultural diversity.
