The Digital Policy Office (DPO) convened a special meeting of the Internet Infrastructure Liaison Group today (September 3) to exchange views on cybersecurity protection, information sharing, and co-ordinated response arrangements to ensure robust cybersecurity support for major events. Representatives of the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Professional Association and the Communications Association of Hong Kong participated in the meeting, working together to foster communication and collaboration between the Internet infrastructure and cybersecurity sectors, and to safeguard the security and resilience of Hong Kong's cyber and digital ecosystems.
      
     The Acting Commissioner for Digital Policy, Mr Daniel Cheung, said at the meeting, "Later this year, Hong Kong will host a series of major events, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Finance Ministers' Meeting, the Election Committee Subsector Ordinary Elections and the 94th INTERPOL General Assembly. To ensure the smooth execution of these relevant activities, the information systems and network services involved must operate securely, reliably, and efficiently. The DPO will work closely with relevant stakeholders, including the Internet infrastructure and cybersecurity sectors, to make full preparations, enhance security monitoring, maintain close communication, and strengthen co-ordination and collaboration, thereby jointly preventing and responding to potential cybersecurity risks."
      
     In addition, the DPO will host the 2026 China Cybersecurity Week Hong Kong Sub-forum and the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Attack and Defence Drill 2026 in September and October respectively, with a view to further promoting cybersecurity and enhancing Hong Kong's overall cybersecurity protection and response capabilities.
      
     The DPO will continue to maintain close liaison with the industry and relevant stakeholders through various mechanisms, including the Internet Infrastructure Liaison Group, on the latest cyber threats and corresponding countermeasures. Having regard to the needs of major events, the DPO will also co-ordinate relevant parties in taking preventive and contingency measures to ensure the security and reliability of Hong Kong's Internet infrastructure and digital government services, thereby supporting the smooth execution of such events and further strengthening Hong Kong's cybersecurity defence.
