The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:

     The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) discussed today (August 27) the application for fare increases by the "Star" Ferry Company, Limited (Star Ferry) for the Central - Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai - Tsim Sha Tsui franchised ferry routes.

     The TAC Chairman, Professor Wong Sze-chun, said, "Members noted the financial and operational performance of the Star Ferry as well as the measures implemented to enhance service and revenue. In deliberating its fare increase application, members have considered and balanced all relevant factors, including the long-term viability of the ferry service and public acceptability of the proposed fare increases."

     The TAC will submit its recommendation to the Government for consideration by the Chief Executive-in-Council.
