Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tseung Kwan O today (August 23) in which a man died.

     Police received a report at about 5.40am that a private car driven by a 35-year-old man was travelling along Wan Po Road towards Kowloon. When approaching Hong Kong Velodrome Park, it reportedly failed to brake in time, striking a stationary taxi and a 67-year-old male taxi driver who was inspecting a tyre at the rear.
      
     Police officers sped to the scene. The taxi driver was trapped under the private car and rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious multiple injuries, the taxi driver was rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 6.58am.

     The private car driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is underway.
