The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Covid-19 cases, the spokesperson for United Christian Hospital (UCH) gave the following update today (August 3):

     Following a contact tracing investigation, two more female patients, aged 14 and 63, from the same psychiatric ward in UCH have tested positive for COVID-19. The patients concerned are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.

     A series of enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted in the ward concerned:

1. Admissions have been suspended;
2. Ward group activities are suspended and patients are under medical surveillance;
3. Ward cleaning and disinfection of the environment have been enhanced, and dedicated medical equipment has been assigned for patients to prevent the spread of the virus; and
4. Application of stringent droplet and contact precautions, and enhanced hand hygiene for staff, patients and visitors have been enacted.

     The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation in the ward concerned. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
