A spokesman for the FEHD said today (June 3), "The FEHD has been stepping up inspections of licensed frozen confection outlets that manufacture frozen confections for customers' immediate consumption at the retail level across districts in Hong Kong since last week. The inspections focus on the cleaning and disinfection of mixing and dispensing machines and utensils, ensuring that premises comply with relevant licensing conditions and meet statutory hygiene standards in the handling and manufacturing of frozen confections. Meanwhile, FEHD staff will also provide health education to responsible persons and food handlers."
In addition, the CFS has issued a letter to all licensed frozen confection factories across Hong Kong, reminding them of the precautions to take when manufacturing frozen confections. The CFS has also published the "Frozen Confections Prepared at Points of Sale for Immediate Consumption - Food Safety Guidelines for Food Businesses", which serves as a reference for food business operators manufacturing ice cream and other similar frozen confections at the retail level. This set of guidelines aims to assist them in implementing food safety measures in their operations in order to prepare and provide safe frozen confections for customers.
