*********************************
The OSH INNO Expo, jointly organised by the Labour Department (LD) and the Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC), opened today (June 2). The two-day Expo brings together over 100 organisations from Hong Kong, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and overseas, showcasing innovative solutions, products and technologies in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH), with a view to promoting the application of innovative technologies to further elevate the standards of OSH.
The opening ceremony of the Expo was officiated by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun; the Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Ms Alice Lau; the Commissioner for Labour, Mr Sam Hui; the Chairman of the OSHC, Dr David Mong; the Vice-chairman of the OSHC, Professor Lam Chor-yin; and the Chair of OSH Innovation and Information Technology Committee, Mrs Cindy Chow.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Sun said that the Government remains steadfast in promoting AI-driven solutions and Smart Site Safety Systems for occupational safety at construction sites. The LD is one of the pioneers in the Government in adopting innovation and technology in inspection and enforcement work. Apart from utilising small unmanned aircraft for site inspections since October 2025, the LD will introduce small unmanned detection vehicles to support inspections of high-risk drainage works and related accident investigations. In addition, to combat climate change, the LD has leveraged on the availability of extra data collected to enhance the Heat Stress at Work Warning system by incorporating more heat index measurements from additional monitoring spots across Hong Kong to improve the coverage and sensitivity of the system, thus further strengthening the protection of health of employees working in hot environments. He encouraged all stakeholders to build on the momentum of the Expo and embrace a forward-looking, data-driven safety culture, and turn "Vision Zero" into a lasting reality through collective efforts.
The exhibition comprises seven themes, covering the preventive applications of AI; smart personal protective equipment (PPE), wearable devices and exoskeletons; the applications of robots and drones; combating extreme weather and heat stress; augmented reality/virtual reality/mixed reality immersive training; the applications of the Internet of Things, big data analytics and cloud computing; and the applications of AI and digital technology in the health sector. Visitors can experience various breakthrough products and learn about their applications, including smart systems integrated into PPE to monitor high-risk operations; wearable exoskeleton devices designed to reduce physical strain on workers; and temperature-controlled vests and heat-stress management platforms that help mitigate the risk of heat stroke.
To deepen knowledge exchanges and strengthen cross-regional collaboration, the Expo also features the OSH INNO Conference. The President of the International Social Security Association, Dr Mohammed Azman, delivered a keynote speech on "Vision Zero and Beyond: Global Innovations in Workplace Safety". A number of international and local experts and scholars also gathered at the conference to share and discuss the applications of generative AI and AI agents in the field of OSH.
Another highlight of the Expo is the OSH Innovation & Technology Award Sharing Session and Presentation Ceremony to be held tomorrow (June 3). The OSH Innovation & Technology Award has received overwhelming responses, with over 210 entries under three categories, namely primary schools, secondary schools and open. Shortlisted entries related to smart safety devices, AI applications, remote-control and robotics technologies, and health monitoring solutions, are displayed at the Expo.
The Expo is being held at Exhibition Hall 1C, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai, from 9am to 6pm, today and tomorrow. The exhibition, conference and awards presentation ceremony are open to the public for free, but preregistration is required. Interested parties may register online (www.oshexpo.hk/osh-inno-expo/registration). For details of the Expo, please visit the event website (www.oshexpo.hk).
