Lifesaving services at gazetted beaches during swimming season
**************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (May 29) that lifesaving services will be provided at gazetted beaches from June 1 as set out in the Annex. Lifesaving services will be provided at the relevant beaches from 9am to 6pm daily. Service provision will be extended to 8am to 7pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays during the peak period from June to August.
The LCSD has proactively implemented a number of measures to stabilise the lifeguard manpower in recent years, including maintaining the market competitiveness of lifeguard remuneration, stepping up recruitment publicity, and organising diverse training courses to recruit more qualified individuals to join the lifesaving service. The LCSD will also flexibly deploy available lifeguards and venue resources to maintain services at aquatic venues. The number of beaches providing lifesaving services starting June 1 this year will remain the same as that of the same period last year.
Swimmers should pay attention to safety and avoid swimming alone when enjoying the fun of swimming, and should only go to beaches where lifesaving services are provided. Please do not enter the water when the red flag is hoisted.
