The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun, today (May 28) concluded his three-day visit to Beijing.

Mr Sun arrived in Beijing in the afternoon on May 26 (Tuesday) and began his visit programme. He first called on the Director General of the Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, Mr Zhao Chunfeng, to exchange views on the importation of labour and regulation of labour services. Mr Sun then visited the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and met with Secretary of the Secretariat Mr Wang Junwei. Both sides agreed to enhance co-operation and strengthen ties in labour affairs.

Yesterday morning (May 27), Mr Sun called on the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Ms Zhang Dongmei to report on the work and progress of social welfare, elderly services and poverty alleviation in Hong Kong.

In the afternoon, Mr Sun met separately with the Director General of the General Office (Department of International Cooperation) of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Mr Liu Xitang, and Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Mr Yu Jiadong. Mr Sun first exchanged views on poverty alleviation and elderly policies with Mr Liu, introducing how the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government helps underprivileged groups through Community Living Rooms to foster a caring and harmonious society, thereby demonstrating the essence of targeted poverty alleviation.

Subsequently, Mr Sun and Mr Yu exchanged views on talent policies, with Mr Sun highlighting the HKSAR Government's latest initiatives and achievements in attracting talent. On behalf of the HKSAR Government, he also expressed gratitude once again to Mr Yu and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security for their support and participation in the Global Talent Summit Week held in Hong Kong this March.

During the visit, Mr Sun toured a local community elderly care service station and an elderly care centre to learn about their operations and facilities. He also spoke with the elderly users and their carers, drawing insights on how to enhance Hong Kong's elderly services based on an elderly-centric principle.

Mr Sun this morning visited the China Enterprise Confederation and met with its Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General, Mr Zhu Hongren. He welcomed Beijing enterprises and relevant talent to pursue development in Hong Kong, and to partner with local enterprises to jointly go global and seize greater business opportunities. Before leaving Beijing, the delegation called on the Director of the International Labour Organization Country Office for China and Mongolia, Dr Lee Changhee, to exchange views on various labour matters.

The Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Ms Alice Lau; the Director of Social Welfare, Mr Edward To; and the Commissioner for Labour, Mr Sam Hui, were also on the visit.
