Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cannabis buds worth about $6 million (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (May 19) seized about 31 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds, with a total estimated market value of about $6 million, in Tuen Mun. A 33-year-old man suspected to be connected with the case was arrested.

     During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Tuen Mun last night, Customs officers intercepted a suspicious man and found about 20.5kg of suspected cannabis buds from two canvas bags carried by him. He was subsequently arrested.

     Customs officers then escorted the man to an industrial unit in Tuen Mun for a search and found about 10.5kg of suspected cannabis buds and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia in the unit.

     The arrested man has been charged with two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (May 21).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
