Temporary toll waiver for commercial vehicles carried out smoothly following overnight monitoring (with photos)
***************************************************************

The Government has waived 50 per cent of the toll for commercial vehicles using government tolled tunnels and the Tsing Sha Control Area from 0.00am today (May 17). The system operations have mostly been smooth, while overall traffic conditions have remained generally normal.

The Commissioner for Transport, Miss Winnie Tse, visited the HKeToll control centre in the early hours today, and was briefed by the toll service provider on the adjustments to the system and toll information displays. She appreciated the efforts of the multidisciplinary team comprising the Transport Department (TD) and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department for completing the necessary tests, and implementing the waiver carefully, efficiently and smoothly. This temporary measure aims to relieve the relevant trades' pressure in coping with rising fuel prices.

The TD will closely monitor the implementation of the waiver. As a temporary measure, it covers vehicles registered as buses, goods vehicles, light buses and taxis under the TD's records, and will last for two months until 11.59pm on July 16 (Thursday). Commercial vehicle owners are not required to submit any application; they only need to pay the reduced amount as displayed in the system. Taxi passengers must continue to pay the statutory tolls in full during the waiver period.

Motorists can obtain real-time toll information via the HKeToll or HKeMobility mobile apps and toll information displays.
