At the meeting, members were briefed on the major initiatives in the 2026-27 Budget that were related to the purview of the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, as well as the Government's progress in formulating Hong Kong's first five-year plan. Members then provided various constructive suggestions, which were conducive to the Government's effort in enhancing the strategy in promoting the development of innovation and technology (I&T) in Hong Kong.
Professor Sun said, "The National 15th Five-Year Plan indicates clear support for Hong Kong's development into an international I&T centre. This year's Budget has also attached great importance to I&T development to use I&T to drive and empower Hong Kong's high-quality development. We will take forward the high-quality development of the new development layout of 'three major I&T parks and five key research and development institutions', while promoting the development of 'new industrialisation' and building a mordernised industrial system for Hong Kong. At the same time, we will fully support the nation's 'AI+' initiative, leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate development across all sectors. We are currently working at full speed to formulate Hong Kong's five-year plan, opening up new tracks for Hong Kong to develop as an international I&T centre."
Established on March 3, 2023, the CITID advises the Government on the directions and strategies as set out in the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint on promoting the development of I&T in Hong Kong, and enhances co-operation among stakeholders.
