The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) held the award presentation ceremony of Anti-rodent Partner Awards 2026 today (April 23). The Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Miss Diane Wong, and the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Donald Ng, officiated at the ceremony and presented awards and certificates to representatives of the awarded organisations and groups.

The FEHD launched the Anti-rodent Charter (the Charter) at the end of 2024 to encourage residential premises and stakeholders to enhance rodent prevention and control at source. By implementing environmental management measures and promoting residents' participation, a long-term anti-rodent mechanism can be gradually established. The residential premises that have signed the Charter covers over 720 000 households to date, reflecting the importance attached by the community to rodent prevention and control.

To commend premises with outstanding performance in rodent control, the FEHD launched the Anti-rodent Partner Awards 2026 in January this year, featuring four award categories: Outstanding Anti-rodent Partner Award, Distinguished Anti-rodent Liaison Ambassadors Award, Technology Application Award and Innovation Award. Through these awards, the FEHD aims to motivate more stakeholders to engage in rodent prevention and control work, and enhance residents' attention and engagement towards environmental hygiene to jointly create a rodent-free environment. The department received over 320 nominations from various housing estates and community groups across Hong Kong, fully demonstrating the community's mobilisation and cohesion in combating rodent infestation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Miss Wong said that effective rodent prevention and control requires joint efforts by the Government and the community. By continuously improving environmental hygiene, utilising technology and strengthening public education, the risk of rodent infestation could be reduced through a multipronged approach. The FEHD is implementing a new data-driven rodent control strategy, utilising data from rodent activity surveys to optimise the deployment of manpower and resources for more targeted actions, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of rodent control work.

She emphasised that rodent prevention and control requires the joint participation of all sectors of society and appealed for more organisations to join the Charter. She also announced that, starting today, the Charter would be extended to cover shopping centres. Property management companies, operators and owners of shopping centres are invited to sign the Charter to extend rodent prevention and control measures to different sectors of the community, and jointly enhance the overall environmental hygiene of Hong Kong.

A rodent prevention and control seminar was held by the FEHD following the award presentation ceremony to share experience with anti-rodent liaison ambassadors in monitoring rodent control work and introducing key points regarding rodent control tools and techniques. The venue also featured exhibition boards to introduce the Charter and provide information on rodent prevention and control.

The FEHD will continue to strengthen collaboration with various stakeholders and raise public awareness of environmental hygiene through publicity and education, encouraging the adoption of good living habits to reduce rodent infestation risks at source.
