Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

MS (HK) Engineering Limited was fined $210,000 at the Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (April 10) for violations of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on November 9, 2024, at a construction site in Sha Tin. While a worker was loading boxes of tiles onto the platform of a material hoist on the upper floor of a building under construction, the hoist platform suddenly descended, causing him to be trapped between the hoist cage and the landing place on that upper floor. He was certified dead on the same day.
