Led by the Transport and Logistics Bureau and in collaboration with the Maritime Just Transition Task Force of the United Nations Global Compact, with the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as supporting partners, the Training-the-trainer Programme: Green Maritime Fuel for Sustainable Shipping commenced today (April 8) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The course is funded by the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund under the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board.

The Maritime Just Transition Task Force is responsible for conducting the programme. This is the world's first administration-led training-the-trainer programme on green maritime fuel, with the aim to train more personnel with basic knowledge and skills in green maritime fuel. Through these trainees, such knowledge and skills can be transferred to seafarers and shore-based staff, thereby supporting the maritime industry in operating green vessels in a safe and effective way, thus addressing the manpower needs in developing Hong Kong's maritime industry. The primary targets of the programme are maritime trainers, maritime education and training institutions, maritime regulatory bodies, ship managers, ship owners, seafarers, industry practitioners, and tertiary students studying maritime-related disciplines.

The training programme comprises two three-day courses from today to April 15 (Wednesday), and a one-day seminar on April 16 (Thursday) specifically for tertiary students studying maritime-related disciplines. The programme will be conducted in English.
