Senior Counsel appointed

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:
 
     Chief Justice Andrew Cheung, Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, is pleased to announce today (March 31) the appointment of six Senior Counsel of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. They are:
 
Mr Charles Jeremy Chan Wing-ho
Mr Eugene Yim Wing-tsang
Mr Martin Wong Wing-hoi
Mr Calvin Cheuk Yuen-cheong
Ms Bonnie Cheng Yan-ki
Mr Charles Simon Hollander
 
     The appointments are made by the Chief Justice under section 31A of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance.
      
     These appointments will take effect upon the proclamation of the Instruments of Appointment during the ceremonial proceedings at which the appointees will be called to the Inner Bar. The ceremony will take place at 10am on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the Court of Final Appeal and will be broadcast live for the public to view. 
 
     Brief biographical notes on each appointee are set out below:
 
Mr Charles Jeremy Chan Wing-ho
 
Mr Charles Chan, aged 51, holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Social Sciences degree in Criminology from the University of Hong Kong. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1998. His practice specialises in criminal law, with particular emphasis on white-collar crime and appellate work.
 
Mr Eugene Yim Wing-tsang
 
Mr Eugene Yim, aged 48, obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Laws degree from King's College London. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2001. His practice focuses on family and matrimonial law.
 
Mr Martin Wong Wing-hoi
 
Mr Martin Wong, aged 47, holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Laws degree from Boston University. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2004. He has a general civil and commercial practice, with a particular interest in medical negligence.
 
Mr Calvin Cheuk Yuen-cheong
 
Mr Calvin Cheuk, aged 49, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architectural Studies and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Hong Kong, as well as a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Oxford. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2005. He specialises in construction dispute resolution.
 
Ms Bonnie Cheng Yan-ki
 
Ms Bonnie Cheng, aged 41, holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Government and Laws and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Hong Kong, a Master of Science degree in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford, and a Master of Laws degree from Harvard University. She was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2011. She has a broad civil practice encompassing general civil and commercial matters, constitutional and administrative law, and matrimonial law.
 
Mr Charles Simon Hollander
 
Mr Charles Hollander, aged 70, studied Classics and Law at King's College, Cambridge. He commenced practice in England in 1978 and was appointed Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) in England and Wales in 1999. He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2015. His practice focuses primarily on commercial litigation.
