***************************************************************
As an important Hong Kong art event under "Art March", the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) is staging the "Live: Hong Kong Art Exhibition" starting from tomorrow (March 20). The exhibition, which brings together 19 artists who are actively shaping the city's contemporary art scene, ranges from established masters to rising stars. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a selection of their recent works across a variety of media, including painting, ink art, ceramics, sculpture, video, installation and multimedia, offering a comprehensive showcase of Hong Kong's artistic excellence and stylistic diversity. It also provides art lovers from around the world with the opportunity to experience the unique charm of Hong Kong art.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held today (March 19). Officiating guests included the Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Raistlin Lau; the Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee, Professor Douglas So; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Manda Chan; and the Museum Director of the HKMoA, Dr Maria Mok.
The exhibition, on the second floor of the HKMoA, features artworks unfolding through four themes: Urban Stage, Landscape Reimagined, Virtual Reality and Transformation. Hong Kong art uniquely reflects the city as a cultural crossroads, nurturing its own distinctive artistic language and aesthetics in the spaces between traditions of the East and West.
Participating artists include Chu Hing-wah, Angela Yuen, Inkgo Lam, Ross Yau, Hung Keung, Leung Mee-ping, Joseph Chan, Chan Wai-lap, Chan Kwan-lok, Jess Leung, Raymond Fung, Wong Hau-kwei, anothermountainman (Wong Ping-pui, Stanley), Wong Chung-yu, Wong Chun-hei, Wong Lai-ching, Fiona, Hung Hoi, Hung Fai and Law Yuk-mui. Their works are often deeply rooted in local contexts, reflecting Hong Kong's unique urban landscape, rhythm of life and cultural sensibilities.
In addition to showcasing the artworks, the exhibition also further explores the sources of inspiration behind them. Located in The Wing (Lower) on the ground floor, the exhibition features a special section, "Live: Inspiration", which transforms the gallery into miniature studios for each of the 19 participating artists, revealing the fascinating sources of inspiration and creative tools that fuel their practice as well as the artists' creative process.
The HKMoA also introduces "Live: The Studio" for the first time. An open studio is set up to invite artists to take up residencies. Through live creation processes, workshops, sharing sessions and other activities, visitors can engage directly with the artists and witness the process of making art from ideas and experimentation with materials to final fruition.
The HKMoA has engaged the Community Art Network as the exhibition's education and promotion partner. Through videos, artist interviews and multisensory guided tours, the programme helps make contemporary Hong Kong art accessible to a wide range of audiences from different backgrounds. These initiatives aim to broaden public understanding of contemporary Hong Kong art and cultivate a deeper appreciation among diverse audiences.
The exhibition will run from March 20, 2026, to May 5, 2027, at the Hong Kong Art Gallery and the lobby public space on the 2/F, as well as the Wing (Lower) on the G/F of the HKMoA (10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon). Admission is Free. For details of the exhibition, please visit the website at hk.art.museum/en/web/ma/exhibitions-and-events/live-hong-kong-art-exhibition.html.
