FS to visit Beijing

The seminar on March 19 is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China and is co-organised by relevant organisations in Beijing and various Hong Kong associations there. It will examine how Hong Kong can better integrate into and serve the national development strategy, as well as the vast opportunities the 15th Five-Year Plan offers Hong Kong businesses, encouraging Hong Kong people and enterprises to take a more active part in the new developments across the Plan's sectors. Mr Chan will deliver a keynote speech at the seminar; leaders from the relevant central ministries will also attend and speak. The seminar will include thematic seminar sessions focusing on leveraging Hong Kong's strengths to meet the country's needs and exploring how Hong Kong can better support the development of the country's modern industrial system.
The China Development Forum 2026, organised by the Development Research Center of the State Council and hosted by the China Development Research Foundation, will be held on March 22 and 23. State leaders will attend and speak at the Forum, while a few hundred multinational business executives and representatives from international organisations will join. The theme of this year's forum is on China under the National 15th Five-Year Plan and driving high-quality development and creating new opportunities. Mr Chan will deliver a speech at a thematic session.
The eighth meeting of the Mainland and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Co-operation Committee, to be held on March 23, is jointly hosted by Assistant Minister of Commerce, Mr Yuan Xiaoming and Mr Chan. The meeting will review the work about the economic and trade sector of the two places and discuss future collaboration directions.
The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, and the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, will separately depart for Beijing today. Together with the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, who is already visiting Beijing, they will accompany Mr Chan at some of the abovementioned events.
Mr Chan will return to Hong Kong on the afternoon of March 23. During his absence, the Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr Michael Wong, will be the Acting Financial Secretary. Mr Hui will return to Hong Kong on the evening of March 22. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Joseph Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury. Mr Yau will proceed to visit Sichuan and Guizhou on the afternoon of March 23 and return to Hong Kong on the afternoon of March 28. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.
