CAD wins gold medal at 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (with photos)
***************************************************************************************
An Aeronautical Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Interference Detection and Monitoring System that is capable of making use of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data transmitted by aircraft and performing real-time monitoring and identification of potential GNSS interference, newly developed by the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) in conjunction with a local research organisation, won a Gold Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva held between March 11 and 15 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Integrated with carefully designed algorithms, the system can perform real-time analysis of ADS-B data collected by aircraft in flight, and identify potential GNSS interference that may affect the safe operations of aircraft along their flight routes and issue timely alerts. This newly developed system complements the conventional GNSS interference monitoring technologies that mostly rely on ground stations, offering broader and more reliable monitoring and detection coverage for aircraft in flight, thus enhancing aviation safety. The experience gained from developing this new technology can also serve as an important reference for extending its application to other GNSS-reliance sectors, enabling wider adoption.

The Director-General of Civil Aviation, Mr Victor Liu, said, "CAD is committed to enhancing aviation safety and operational efficiency through innovative technologies. This award is testimony to our continued drive and professional efforts. CAD will continue to facilitate and pioneer the development and growth of the aviation industry through embracing innovation and leveraging new technologies."

The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is an annual major event in the global invention community. Around 1 000 inventions from about 35 countries and regions were showcased in this year's event, and award-winning entries were selected as per detailed assessments conducted by an international panel of expert judges.
