Heritage Museum stages Leung Sing Por exhibition to retrace remarkable performing career of "The King of Comic Roles" (with photos)
***************************************************************

The exhibition "The King of Comic Roles" - Leung Sing Por is on display at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM), featuring around 70 sets of selected museum collections and exhibits, including five costume sets exhibited for the first time, handbills, newspapers and photos. It showcases Leung's brilliant artistic journey spanning the realms of Cantonese opera, film and television.

In the 1950s, Leung switched to performing the comic role, which brought him widespread acclaim among audiences, and was honoured with the title "The King of Comic Roles". From the Cantonese opera stage to the silver screen and television, whether as a leading or supporting role, in opera or film, tragedy or comedy, Leung brought to life numerous classic characters with his profound Cantonese opera skills and unique sense of humour.

Highlight exhibits include a brown man's python ceremonial robe with gold and silver sequins worn by Leung, a photograph of Leung in Cantonese opera costume, a Cantonese opera film poster for "The Lion's Roar", a film still of "Silly Wong Growing Rich", and a special film issue of "Ko Kwan Bo, a Spy in the Fort / Lau Kam Ting's Clash at the Gate", which is a retrospective of the wonderful life of "The King of Comic Roles" in Cantonese opera and film.

At the exhibition gallery, visitors can enjoy a retrospective album of Leung's film roles and scan the QR code to listen to radio programme hosts talking about the artistic life of Leung.

Starting from April, two classic films starring Leung, "Siu Po-po Pokes Fun at the King of Blunders" (1960) and "The Lion's Roar" (1959), will be screened monthly at the theatre at the HKHM, where audiences can enjoy his hilarious performances.

The exhibition is on display at the Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall, 1/F, HKHM. Admission is free. For details of the exhibition and film screenings, please visit the website at hk.heritage.museum/en/homepage.html.
