At the receptions, the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, Ms Shirley Yung, highlighted Hong Kong's robust performance in 2025 despite global uncertainty. She shared details of Hong Kong's continuous growth in international investment, record numbers of companies and start-ups, vigorous stock market activities, and sustained capital inflows in asset and wealth management.
Ms Yung also outlined Hong Kong's forward-looking initiatives to create new opportunities for businesses and investors, including the development of the Northern Metropolis as a new international Innovation & Technology (I&T) city and launchpad for the global I&T industry; the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area - a fast-growing market and innovation cluster; as well as the newly launched "Go Global via Hong Kong" initiative, which helps Chinese Mainland enterprises expand business overseas by leveraging Hong Kong's world-class and comprehensive professional services.
As part of Brussels ETO' ongoing efforts to promote Hong Kong cultural talent in Europe, music performances were featured at the receptions in Madrid and The Hague. Guests in Madrid enjoyed an excellent cross-genre performance by soprano Ms Lilian Tong, pianist Siu Tin-chi, and trombonist Frankie Ko, while those in The Hague were captivated by a festive performance by Fiona Foo on the marimba and Charmaine Wong on the pipa.
The receptions in Madrid, The Hague and Limassol, co-organised with Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with support from local partners including the Spain Hong Kong Business Association, the Netherlands Hong Kong Business Association, and the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry respectively, brought together a total of over 330 guests, including officials from local governments, embassies and consulates, financial and business sectors, academia, cultural and creative sectors, media, and Chinese communities.
