Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine worth about $22 million (with photos)
***************************************************************
Hong Kong Customs seized about 30 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $22 million in Kwai Chung on February 10.
Through risk assessment and intelligence analysis, Customs on that day inspected a seaborne consignment, which was from Costa Rica and declared as carrying wood logs, at the Kwai Chung Customhouse Cargo Examination Compound. Upon inspection, Customs officers found the batch of suspected cocaine inside three wood logs.
Subsequently, Customs conducted a controlled delivery operation in Tsing Yi yesterday (February 26) and arrested four foreign men, aged between 27 and 49, who were suspected to be connected with the case.
An investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
