The Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Culture), Miss Eve Tam, and the Deputy General Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility Office of Bank of China (Hong Kong), Ms Angel Yip, welcomed the 250 000th visitor to the exhibition yesterday (February 10) and presented gifts to the visitor and her family at the HKScM.
Emma Leung, a Primary Five student, was the 250 000th visitor. She shared that she had previously visited the Science Museum with her school. For this visit, she invited her family, who live in Belgium and have returned to Hong Kong for Chinese New Year. Emma participated in various sporting activities at the exhibition, such as cycling, volleyball jumping, and fitness testing, which she found very interesting.
The exhibition introduces the country's remarkable sports achievements, offers a scientific perspective of various sports disciplines and the keys to success, showcases how innovative technologies assist athletes to scale new heights, and encourages the public to develop a healthy and active lifestyle. Featuring more than 20 interactive exhibits, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the essence and enjoyment of various sports, such as the spin of rugby, the jumps of beach volleyball, the speed of track cycling, the precision of golf, the attacks of fencing, and the defence of basketball. Visitors can also take part in fitness tests in the "Sports for Wellness" zone to better understand their own physical condition. For the public to understand the concept of sports comprehensively and learn how to integrate sports into everyday life, the exhibition covers sports psychology, sports medicine, and sports nutrition.
The exhibition also presents Hong Kong athletes' medals and equipment, including the track-cycling gear of Lee Wai-sze and the gold medal won by Wu Siu-hong at the IBF World Bowling Championships, which highlight athletes' relentless efforts and pursuit of excellence in the spirit of sportsmanship.
The HKScM has also organised a series of activities that are free of charge with on-site enrolment. Fixed point guided tours in Cantonese are provided on Saturdays, Sundays and on the February 19, with three sessions each day, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of sports science. A "Speedy Science Crafts" activity will be held on February 24 while the "Athletic Games of Friction" Workshop will be held on February 25, offering visitors a more enriching experience.
The exhibition is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as the second edition of the National Development and Achievements Series. It is organised by the HKScM, and exclusively sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong). In addition, the HKScM has recently launched three new exhibitions, namely "Living Tech Gallery", "InnoTech Gallery" and "AI Gallery". Visitors can enjoy these three new exhibitions along with the sports science exhibition in one go, enjoying a diverse and multifaceted scientific exploration experience. Details of the sports science exhibition is available at the HKScM website hk.science.museum/en/web/scm/exhibition/sports2025.html.
