Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

Unistress Building Construction Limited and Lei Gwai Fung Engineering Co., Limited were fined $26,000 and $102,000 respectively at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (February 2). The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

Unistress violated the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations (CSSR), whereas Lei Gwai Fung violated the CSSR and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on December 8, 2023, at a construction site in Yau Tong. While carrying out erection work of a temporary metal structure, a worker fell from height onto the ground. The worker was unconscious and passed away the next day.
