Moving waste management forward
*******************************

Hong Kong's first waste-to-energy plant - the Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase I (I·PARK1) - has commenced trial operation. Using advanced incineration technology, it generates electricity from the heat recovered from the incineration process. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to export enough electricity to meet the annual needs of 100 000 households.

News.gov.hk spoke with a representative from the Environmental Protection Department, who introduced the features at I·PARK1 and explained the waste treatment process.

The story is available at www.news.gov.hk/eng/feature from today (February 1) in text and video format.
