Online voting for 2021-2025 Top 10 Mind-boggling Weather and Climate Events Selection begins
***************************************************************

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Meteorological Society (HKMetS), has organised the 2021-2025 Top 10 Mind-boggling Weather and Climate Events Selection, which opens for online voting today (January 29).

In recent years, extreme weather conditions such as scorching high temperatures, super typhoons and torrential rain have affected Hong Kong and various parts of the world. Meanwhile, under the influence of climate change, extreme weather events have become increasingly frequent, causing severe damage across the world and even resulting in loss of life. Through the voting activity, the HKO and the HKMetS hope to arouse public attention to significant weather and climate events in Hong Kong and around the world, and to enhance their understanding on climate change and its impact on human lives.

The online voting activity starts today. The public can select five weather and climate events from a shortlist in each of two given categories, namely "Hong Kong" and "Worldwide", that they consider the most significant or impactful, or the most representative of a climate crisis. Participants of the voting activity may have a chance to receive an HKO souvenir.

The website of the 2021-2025 Top 10 Mind-boggling Weather and Climate Events Selection is publicity.weather.gov.hk. The voting period will end on February 28. Voting results will be announced in late March.
