SCS encourages youth to learn about wide variety of government jobs (with photos)
*********************************************************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, today (January 22) visited the exhibition booths set up by various policy bureaux and departments at the Education & Careers Expo 2026. She encouraged students and young people to gain an understanding of the diverse work and career opportunities across different government departments, and to consider joining the Government to build the future of Hong Kong together.

Mrs Yeung and the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Ms Shirley Lam, visited the government departments' exhibition area and chatted with students to learn about their career plans and thoughts on government work.

The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) has newly set up a government stage area this year, allowing departments to introduce the unique work experiences and achievements of different grades as well as relevant recruitment information, and to interact with visitors through a series of seminars. The four seminars held at the government stage area today drew an enthusiastic response. After learning more about the work of the Government Flying Service, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force, and the artificial intelligence typhoon analysis of the Hong Kong Observatory, as well as the experience of young public officers working at the United Nations, many participants showed great interest in government work.

The CSB also held three thematic seminars today at the Open Forum of the Expo, providing details of the work characteristics and public service missions of the Administrative Officer Grade, Executive Officer Grade, and Clerical and Secretarial Grades.

Mrs Yeung said, "Some young people just told me that after touring the Expo, they found government work more interesting, broader and deeper in scope and more challenging than they had imagined. I encourage young people to seize this opportunity to gain deeper insights into the diverse roles across various departments and seriously consider joining the civil service to provide efficient, professional, innovative and people-oriented public services and build a better Hong Kong together with us."

The Education & Careers Expo 2026 is being held from today to January 25 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Admission is free. Over the next three days, the CSB will continue to hold 13 sharing sessions under the Diverse Spectrum of Public Service: Careers Exploration Series at the government stage area (1D-A16 at Hall 1D). Serving colleagues from different areas of public service will share the unique work experiences and achievements of individual grades, how they apply creativity and professionalism in their daily work, and introduce relevant recruitment information. Details of the sharing sessions are set out in the Annex. Members of the public are welcome to join.
