The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) made the following statement today (January 16) regarding a suspected indecent assault incident of a student nurse:

     A student nurse on placement of a Medicine and Therapeutics ward was suspected to have been indecently assaulted while taking care of a patient this afternoon. A 50-year-old male patient was subsequently arrested by the Police in the ward.

     The PWH is highly concerned about the incident. The hospital strongly condemns the suspected indecent act against the student nurse, resolutely adopts a zero-tolerance attitude towards this incident, and will follow up seriously while fully co-operating with the Police investigation. The hospital has expressed sympathy and provided support to the student nurse concerned.

     The incident has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
