The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Eighth Legislative Council (LegCo) will hold its first meeting tomorrow (January 14) at 11am in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. During the meeting, the Chief Executive will address the Council, under Rule 8(a) of the Rules of Procedure, on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's expectations for the new term of LegCo, the positive interaction between the executive authorities and the legislature, as well as matters relating to disaster relief and follow-up support after the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.
      
     On Government motion, the Chief Secretary for Administration will move a motion on support and rebuilding work after the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. The motion is set out in Appendix 1.
      
     On Members' motion, Mr Chong Ho-fung will move a motion on improving the management of building maintenance works. The motion is set out in Appendix 2. Mr Kenneth Fok, Mr Chan Hok-fung, Mr Tang Ka-piu and Mr Nick Chan will move separate amendments to Mr Chong Ho-fung's motion.
      
     The agenda of the above meeting is available on the LegCo Website (www.legco.gov.hk). Members of the public can watch or listen to the meeting via the "Webcast" system on the LegCo Website. To observe the proceedings of the meeting at the LegCo Complex, members of the public may call 3919 3399 during office hours to reserve seats.
