************************************************
V Mart, the new cultural and creative arts bazaar at Victoria Park, co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Po Leung Kuk, held the opening ceremony today (January 10).
V Mart has commenced operation after a trial run on December 12 last year. It will showcase a diversity of intriguing themes from time to time appealing to local residents and tourists. With the coming Chinese New Year, V Mart's theme will be "New Year Pet Cuties", featuring a pet-friendly area and pet photo spots. A series of events including Doggies Sports Day, New Year pet style competition and pet adoption day will be held.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Raistlin Lau, said that through cross-sectoral collaboration with Po Leung Kuk, V Mart would transform the time-honoured Victoria Park into a market with multifarious themes, adding to community vibrancy and showcasing the unique charm of Hong Kong where East meets West and tradition meets modernity.
Other officiating guests at the ceremony included the Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, Ms Amanda Ho; Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Manda Chan and Vice Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, Mr Louie Lam.
Located at the Water Fountain Plaza and the South Pavilion Plaza in Victoria Park, V Mart is one of the nine hotspot projects announced in last May by the Working Group on Developing Tourist Hotspots led by the Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration. V Mart opens from noon to 9pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (operation period subject to changes in light of major events to be held at Victoria Park) up to end-November this year.
