
Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

China Overseas Building Construction Limited, World Pacific Scaffolding Systems Limited and Kam Yep Engineering Company Limited were fined $170,000, $150,000 and $190,000 respectively, at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (November 24). The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
China Overseas Building Construction Limited violated the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation, whereas World Pacific Scaffolding Systems Limited and Kam Yep Engineering Company Limited violated the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on April 18, 2021, at a construction site at the Kai Tak area. It was believed that a worker, while conducting scaffolding work at a building under construction, fell from height to the podium. The worker was sent to hospital and passed away on the same day.
